Terms of Use
Last updated: 13 August 2026
By using StainWise you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. We have tried to keep this readable rather than burying the important points.
1. Informational purpose only
StainWise is an informational and educational resource. Our guides and tool output are general guidance about household stain removal. They are not professional cleaning, textile conservation, medical or safety advice, and they do not replace the instructions supplied with your garment or cleaning products.
2. AI limitations and no guarantee of accuracy
The identification feature uses artificial intelligence to analyse a photograph. We do not guarantee that a stain will be identified correctly. Image quality, lighting, fabric colour, mixed or overlapping stains, and unusual materials can all lead to an incorrect result. The confidence level shown is an indication, not a certification.
You are responsible for judging whether a suggestion makes sense for your situation before acting on it.
3. No guarantee a treatment will remove a stain
Even a correctly identified stain may not come out. Age, previous heat exposure, earlier cleaning attempts, dye behaviour and fibre type all affect the outcome. We do not promise that any method described on StainWise will remove a given stain.
4. Risk of discolouration or fabric damage
Stain treatment carries an inherent risk of discolouration, dye loss, texture change, shrinkage or permanent damage. This is especially true for wool, silk, rayon, leather, and anything labelled dry clean only. You accept that risk when you apply any treatment described here.
5. Your responsibilities before treating anything
- Read and follow the manufacturer's care label on the item.
- Read and follow the label on every cleaning product you use.
- Test the treatment on an inconspicuous area — an inside seam, hem or hidden corner — and let it dry before treating the visible stain.
- Never mix cleaning chemicals unless the product manufacturer specifically instructs you to. Never combine chlorine bleach with ammonia, vinegar or other acids, or rubbing alcohol.
- Ventilate the area and follow any safety warnings on the products.
- Use a professional cleaner for valuable, antique, heirloom or dry-clean-only items.
6. Third-party products
Where we mention product categories such as enzyme detergents, oxygen bleach or solvent-based removers, we are describing types of product, not endorsing or warranting any particular brand. Product formulations change. The label supplied with the product always takes precedence over anything written here.
7. Intellectual property
The StainWise name, logo, site design and written guides are our property and are protected by intellectual property laws. You may read, print and share links for personal, non-commercial use. You may not republish, scrape, bulk-copy, resell or use our content to train machine-learning models without written permission.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Upload images that are unlawful, or that contain other people's personal or sensitive information, or content you do not have the right to submit.
- Attempt to break, overload, probe or reverse-engineer the service or its infrastructure.
- Use automated tools to scrape content or submit bulk requests.
- Interfere with other users, or misrepresent your identity.
Please only upload photographs of the stained item itself. We may suspend access where these terms are breached.
9. Accounts
Some features require an account. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your sign-in details secure. Browsing our guides does not require an account.
10. Service availability
StainWise is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We may change, suspend or discontinue features, and the AI analysis depends on third-party services that can be interrupted. We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, StainWise and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for damage to garments, upholstery, carpet or other property resulting from following guidance on this site. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
12. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what happens to uploaded photos, including the fact that they are processed by a third-party AI service, and how cookies, analytics and advertising work.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service develops. The revision date at the top will change, and continuing to use StainWise after an update means you accept the revised terms.
14. Contact
Questions about these terms can be sent through our contact form.
